Mark Harmon Says He’s Ready To Tangle With Jamie Lee Curtis On ‘NCIS’

Posted by admin with No Comments

Jamie Lee Curtis is gearing up to shake things up both romantically and professionally for Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs on “NCIS” later this season.

“We haven’t touched on his personal life in awhile and we’re about to introduce a woman that’s going to get people going,” show boss Gary Glasberg told AccessHollywood.com on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association Winter Session 2012, when asked about future plans for the popular character. “Just look for Jamie Lee Curtis.”

So far, the actress has signed on for two episodes, and it appears that there will be a some sort of spark between Curtis’ unnamed character and Harmon’s Gibbs.

“We’re prepping that episode right now. She’s coming into our world from a very unique government perspective and she will spar with him in ways that people aren’t used to,” Glasberg told Access.

The show boss noted it is a case that brings the two characters together, and unlike some of the other women that have come across Gibbs’ path – like Lauren Holly’s Jenny Shepard – the two won’t have a history.

“It’s gonna be fun,” Glasberg smiled. “She’s really excited about that.”

When asked about Curtis coming to the “NCIS” fold as a romantic interest by Access, Harmon turned to his boss.

“A love interest? Is that what I am now with Curtis?” Harmon asked Glasberg.

“There’s a spark,” Glasberg chimed in.

Harmon, whose Gibbs’ character has led the “NCIS” team for (most of) nine seasons on CBS, said he hasn’t shot any scenes with Curtis yet, but he is looking forward to reuniting with his former “Freaky Friday” co-star.

“Jamie’s great and I think we’re all glad that she’s coming to play with us in our little sandbox for a while and she’s fortunate to have [Glasberg] creating the character she’s playing,” he said. “But I look forward to it, absolutely.”

Before that happens, “NCIS” has another road to travel when the show celebrates its 200th episode.

Set to air on February 7 on CBS, the special episode will take a look at what could have happened if different decisions were made by the characters over the years.

Glasberg said Holly isn’t coming back for the episode, but he smiled and said to watch when a reporter asked if Sasha Alexander (who played Kate) would return for the special.

He also said the 200th episode will feature many eye-catching moments.

“There’s very much an ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ quality to this story,” Glasberg said in response to another reporter’s question. “People should watch this episode multiple times because there’s so much crossing and appearances that happen, that I highly recommend the DVR to be turned on.”

The show boss told Access that no one from “JAG,” the show which spawned “NCIS,” would appear.

“That, I can tell you, isn’t happening, but a lot of people that go way back in the history of ‘NCIS’ [are in the episode],” Glasberg said. “I’m not going to give you names, but there are heroes as well as villains.”

Nine seasons in, “NCIS” has battled to the top of the television ratings, and it show no signs of stopping – even threating to take out “Gunsmoke’s” record for most years on the air for a dramatic television show (a record shared by “Law & Order”).

“We’re certainly going to give it a try,” Glasberg said during the TCA panel when asked about taking over the record of 20 years.

“I like the idea of riding a horse if we’re gonna do that,” Harmon chimed in.

“We’ll all ride that horse with you,” Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo) added.

‘NCIS’: Brian Dietzen and Larry Miller tease ‘Meet the Parents’-esque Christmas episode

Posted by admin with No Comments

Jimmy Palmer has troubled headed his way. And his name is Larry Miller.

As EW first told you, the comedian will guest in tonight’s episode as Palmer’s (Brian Dietzen) father-in-law-to-be, and when we caught up with the pair to chat about the episode in a joint interview, the pair previewed an episode that’s Meet the Parents… with more murder.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So what can you tell me about the episode?
BRIAN DIETZEN:
Jimmy Palmer, as everybody knows, is now engaged, and he’s going to be having a wedding by the end of the year, and in this episode, his wife-to-be’s father — his future father-in-law — is stopping by to see where Jimmy works and kind of vet him a little more before they actually get to the aisle. We’re really fortunate to have Larry Miller come in. He’s been just a joy to work with and play with and adding a heck of a lot of humor to what could be a really dour character and making it live and breath. And the two of us have been having a hell of a good time this whole week.

What can you tell me about your character, Larry?
LARRY MILLER:
Well, Ed is the sexual center of the show, which is why it’s his presence really. Now, I understand it’s not written that way, but that’s the way I’m playing it. [Laughs] It’s great. The folks get to know you as an actor and know what you can bring to [a role]. I’ve come on and put a funny spin on a guy who’s really annoying to people. I love annoying characters. If I had a business card it would say “annoying characters, a specialty.” To comment, yeah, as Brian said, he’s vetting, as it were, his son-in-law. This guy is like, “I’m not a big fan of institutions like this. I’m not impressed at all this guys a secret agent.” I get to tease them with those phrases actually. I get chastened in a good way, and we’ll see what happens. If there’s a wedding and I come back, we’ll see. It would be fun to play the same guy, drinking.
BD: It’s been great too, because throughout this whole episode, we don’t often get to see Jimmy Palmer with his close personal relationships on the show, it’s mostly about the cases for Jimmy. So getting to see this other side of his life, we get to see different sides to this character that we’ve never seen before. We see him go through some different emotions that are a first for him on this show, and to be able to do that with Larry was really a blast and a real treat.

So what brings Ed to meet Gibbs?
LM:
Well, I was in the office. Jimmy’s brought me along. By the way, that’s one of the nice premises of this script — what Jimmy has had to endure. For hours before this show even starts, they’re together. Apparently I’ve said to him “Look, I’m going with you. I’m coming to where you work and I want to check this place out and why are you doing this? You should come to work with me instead, I’ll give you part of the business.” So that’s what brings this guy to the office.
BD: And Jimmy’s really trying to do right by his future wife and say, “No, I’m going to take him to my work. I’m going to show him how hard I work. I’m going to show him what a great team of people that I work with.” I mean, let’s be honest, who wouldn’t love going to see the real life folks of NCIS, especially if they are as colorful of characters as these people are? And he’s not sold by Gibbs, he’s not sold by Abby, Ducky, any of these wonderful characters that we’ve all fallen in love with. He’s a hardened individual, and it’s really little else to say besides, “What the hell is wrong with you?!”

Brian, you mention that we get to see a different side of Jimmy. Explain.
BD:
It’s one of the situations where this man who comes into our world is not showing any respect to the alpha male of all of primetime television and the United States, who is Leroy Jethro Gibbs. And he’s not showing any respect to Abby Shuto, or Dr. Donald Mallard. He’s not showing respect to any of these people and he’s also not showing respect in turn, Jimmy sees it, to their profession, which is very very important to him. So Jimmy is forced to stand up a little bit and say “Look, this is something that’s important. I don’t care if you don’t respect me but you have to respect this.” And there’s a forcefulness that I think we haven’t seen out of him and its going to be really fun for people to check out and the underdog finally kind of stands up for himself and stands up for his friends. And say this is what is right. And it’s been very fun to shoot as well with Larry

Well, we hope to see you back when the wedding comes around, Larry.
BD:
Oh, we sure hope that we get Larry back to give away the bride, that’s for sure.

When are y’all filming that?
BD:
We know it’s not the 200th. We’re shooting the 200th [shortly], but I have been told there will be an episode towards the end of the season which will be basically Jimmy’s bachelor party, so we have a lot of bets going to who will throw him a bachelor party. And then the season finale I believe will be the wedding, and there’s also bets going on who will be the best man. We have no idea so it’s gonna come from the NCIS world though, I would think it makes more sense. So it’s interesting, our writers are teasing ideas here and there, although they won’t let us in on a lot of it, which is kind of fun, keeping us in the dark because then it will be fresh and new.
LM: By the way, what’s funny, every guest actor is always saying, “Maybe Ed comes back and he becomes a surgeon and he works with Dr. Mallard,” and other preposterous reasons to come back, but the truth is, it would be very funny to have the father-in-law go to the bachelor party. If one of your friends throws it and [to get] drunk with Gibbs.
BD: It would be fun to have an I Love You, Man [moment]. That would be awesome, and awful. Let’s do it.

Anything else you can share about NCIS‘s answer to Meet the Parents?
BD:
I think the thing that viewers are going to look forward to the most is this is the NCIS Christmas episode and you can’t watch a Christmas episode without walking away feeling better and feeling nice, like a warm feeling inside that things happen and it’s a celebration. It’s not entirely just slap-sticky Jimmy’s getting nervous type of stuff. There’s a warmth that comes, too.

‘NCIS’ Gets Touched by an ‘Angel’

Posted by admin with No Comments

Original Charlie’s Angels cast member Cheryl Ladd plays David McCallum’s love interest on NCIS.

“I think they must have heard that I was one of their greatest fans,” Cheryl joked with Nancy O’Dell when she was asked how her role on the show came to be. “It’s one of those shows that when they called and said they had something fun and interesting for me to do, I said yes.”

In the all-new episode, Cheryl plays Mary Courtney, Ducky’s (David McCallum) love interest whom he met via the internet.

“She’s charming and beautiful and wonderful and talented,” David gushed about his special guest star. “I hear she’s a great golfer, too.”

While Cheryl kept tight-lipped about her future on the show, she admitted that she would return to the show “in a New York minute” if given the opportunity, saying, “I’m having a ball.”

Be sure to tune in to NCIS on CBS.

Exclusive: Brian Dietzen on His ‘NCIS’ Success & His Love For ‘Modern Family’

Posted by admin with No Comments

Even if you don’t yet know this actor’s name off-hand, you definitely know his face. Brian Dietzen has played the lovable assistant medical examiner, Jimmy Palmer, on NCIS for over 8 years now and his story is not anywhere close to being over. In fact, his character is in the midst of planning for his own wedding which is scheduled to air in the spring. Yes, Dietzen has remained a constant presence as part of the NCIS gang, but did you know that his character was only supposed to be a one-time thing? I had the pleasure of speaking with Dietzen about the hit drama, what life is like on-set, his relationships with fellow characters, some of his favorite television shows (besides NCIS), and any other upcoming projects he has in the works.

One thing that I love about the show NCIS is that you always get a great mix of drama and humor. There are the actual investigations where everyone’s trying to solve the case, but then there’s also some great interaction and dialogue between the characters and I just really love that. It just seems like everyone clicks really well together. What’s the atmosphere like while filming an episode?
The atmosphere is pretty great on the set. There are not a lot of shows that have been around as long as we have and by the time a show gets to this place in its life, people aren’t the best of friends anymore and I’m very happy to say that our set is not like that at all. Everyone in the cast gets along fantastic and it’s a great place to work. Everyone is there to help out and make the show better and I think that’s the big secret that we’re hiding from everyone is that everyone shows up to really try and really make the show as good as possible.

Yeah, you can really tell. I mean this is your ninth year for the show and I just think it really shows during the episodes how strong you guys all are together, so that’s really great.
Yeah, everyone’s always hunting for the funniest moment or what can make this more powerful for the audiences. Everyone’s a big fan of the show itself and the characters. We all love the characters I think as much as the people that watch it, so we all work together as a team pretty darn well by now.

Your character, Jimmy Palmer, is the assistant to the Chief Medical Examiner known as Ducky. When you first were cast to play that part, did you have to observe or follow around a real medical examiner?
Yeah, David McCallum and I had the opportunity to go down to Craig Harvey who is the Chief Medical Examiner for L.A. County and tour around and observe a few autopsies down in Los Angeles and it was pretty grisly. It was pretty amazing to see all this stuff. Not many people get to see it and I don’t think many people would want to, but what struck both of us about these people were that they’re just normal folks and they talk about their personal lives while they’re working. They talk about sports while they’re working. They tell jokes here and there, not being inappropriate whatsoever with the dead, but they have to lead their lives normally. They can’t lead their lives with some sort of reverence and whisper around dead bodies and that sort of thing, otherwise they’d drive themselves insane. They have to just be normal people and I think that’s one of the things David and I have been happy that the writers have infused into these two characters – that they’re just living their lives and they may be cavalier about certain subjects, even though there’s a dead body within the room they can still talk about daily life and go on about their life and it lends a certain degree of levity to an autopsy room you wouldn’t expect, but I think that’s what has kept us going strong til now.

I think that’s also a really good point in that Ducky speaks to the dead people. It’s a way to cope and deal with the type of work that you’re actually doing.
Yeah, if you think about it. I’m not around real dead people all that often, most people aren’t, but when you are you tend to be very, very respectful and quiet and people do tend to whisper cause you’re trying to show massive amounts of respect, but if this is your daily life you have to figure out a way to go about it and not go insane by the time you reach Friday. So the way we’ve done that is that there’s a bit of humor in the autopsy and there’s good times had by both of us.

So this definitely made you grateful that’s not your real career?
Oh gosh, yes. I’m so thankful there are people out there that do this for their real career because they are amazing scientists that can use forensics and autopsies to solve these crimes and to give some peace and closure to the families of the victims, but myself I could not do it. There’s no way. This is probably on my all-time list of No, I don’t think I want to do that with my life.

Totally understandable. Jimmy’s always been a little socially awkward, but in such an endearing way. He has that sort of lovable nerd persona who seems to have a really big heart, so that makes him really likable. When you first entered into the role, did you see any part of yourself in Jimmy?
Yeah, I think so. Most people have that inside of them – the insecurity and kind of the underdog inside of most people and I think that’s a very fun thing to play for me because I don’t generally act too much that way in real life, but everyone wants to root for the underdog and that’s what I hear from a lot of people. “I love your character because sometimes I feel that way, especially around people like Gibbs and I think that often times I have that inside of me. I think we all do and it’s fun to check out and put into a character. But it’s interesting because when I first auditioned for this role, it was only supposed to be for one day in the first season and they just kept asking me back and so yeah eight years later I’m still flaking around, but so when I first came up with the character I thought “Well, just kinda make some bold choices” as far as being very insecure and second guessing myself and all that sort of stuff cause I thought, well it’s just going to be one and done and it will be something good for my actor’s reel – a different character. And then eight years later I’m thinking, wow, okay, still around so I gotta keep figuring new ways to keep the character the same because it’s an endearing character, but also to give him small amounts of growth in certain areas so people realize he’s not just a low robot.

‘NCIS’ Brian Dietzen: Jimmy’s Getting Married

Posted by admin with No Comments

“NCIS’s” Brian Dietzen — that’s eccentric Assistant Medical Examiner Jimmy Palmer to fans — has been notified that Jimmy “will be married by the end of the year. It’s yet to be seen whether we’ll be in on all the bachelor party-type stuff,” says the actor, who admits he has “a lot of questions” about his pending nuptials, which will be toward season’s end in the spring.

“He’s been talking a lot about his fiancee, Breena, who’s an embalmer, in the episodes we’ve been doing,” he says. What’s been on Dietzen’s mind a lot is, “What’s going to happen on Jimmy’s wedding day? Will it become a crime scene?”

According to Dietzen, Jimmy’s days of under-the-autopsy table assignations and such are over with. “Jimmy did have a pretty lascivious affair with a past agent. That got her nowhere,” he notes, referring to Liza Lapira’s character, who was shot to death in the line of duty by none other than Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon). “I’m not sure Jimmy is that adventurous any more. If he thinks enough of this woman to marry her, he’s being a little more conscientious.”

Dietzen is celebrating his eighth year of playing Jimmy — which is particularly good considering he initially came in for a one-day-only appearance. “I still really love, love, love going to work at ‘NCIS.’ Everyone really does love working together,” he says. And as for Harmon, “When the No. 1 guy on the call sheet shows up before you do and leaves after you, it’s hard not to take cues from him. He’s an executive producer on the show too, you know. Add to that he’s just a nice person and we have fun.”

Dietzen has his own producing project in post-production right now. It’s a film called “Congratulations” in which a young couple (played by Dietzen and Abby Miller, who also cowrote the screenplay with him) confront diverging feelings about whether or not to marry. “People in my generation have different views about marriage than our parents. We’re waiting longer and longer to get married, longer and longer to have kids, longer and longer to buy houses and all that stuff,” says the actor, who is, in fact, married with two young children. “It’s a great theme to explore: what does it mean to be married? Is it spending time with the person and loving them, or being able to tell family and friends that you’re married?”

Debra Jo Rupp (“That ’70s Show”) and Kevin Rankin (“Unforgettable”) are also in “Congratulations,” which Dietzen is just about to send out for Sundance Film Festival consideration.
